About Us

A History of Windcrest Setters...
In the late '60's Mike & Sue Scovil acquired their first Gordon Setter as a hunting companion for Mike.  And following soon afterwards another that also did well in field work but introduced Sue to the sport of Showing Dogs.  In 1974, we had the top female Gordon Setter in the country, Ch. Windrock's Miss Gale.  Several litters were bred and many lifetime friendships were established.  After Misty passed on there was a long time period without Gordons in the family.  In 1991, after Denise had graduated from college and became a licensed veterinary technician, Sue and Denise acquired what would be the foundation for the reestablished Windcrest Setters.  Ch. Buteo's Dixie of Windcrest produced 2 litters for us and is the foundation of 6 generations currently.  Her son, Ch. Windcrest Once In A Blue Moon, "Chase", produced multiple litters and has get not only in the US, but Finland, Sweden and Russia.  We have achieved 22 AKC Championships on dogs we have bred, owned and loved.  Chase's grandson "Rab" is our first Best In Show, Multiple Specialty Winning and National Specialty Winning Gordon Setter.  He was the #1 Gordon Setter in 2006 as a 3 year old.  In 2007 Rab won the Breed at Westminster Kennel Club as well as winning his first Best In Show.  At the 2007 GSCA National Specialty we made history in becoming the first Breeders to win Best of Breed with Rab and Best In Puppy Sweepstakes with Deacon in the same National.  Rab came home after the National to enjoy a well deserved break.  He finished #2 Breed Gordon Setter, #3 All Breed Gordon Setter in 2007.  Rab has returned to the show ring in July 2009 by going Best In Show in Canada at the Valley Kennel Club show in Lombardy with Denise handling and is now returning as a veteran in the US.  In June 2010 Rab became the FIRST AKC American Grand Champion Gordon Setter in the country finishing with his Best of Breed win at the Minnesota Specialty with Denise handling him all the way.  We are also proud that Rab's daughter "Stevie" has achieved 2 new agility titles and is the first Windcrest Setter to have an agility title.

When Denise was growing up, she had stated she wanted to obtain one of each setter breed when she was older.  In 1995 she acquired a beautiful blue belton English Setter named Oswick's Cliff Hanger from Linda Wozniak.  "Sly" introduced us to the wonderful world of spots.  Sadly after an exciting start to a show career, Sly passed away unexpectedly.  We are happy to have his niece and nephew in our household now.  Windcrest Back In The Hylife, "Ali", joined us several years ago and was bred by Jim & Brenda Life and we now have her son "Tye" and daughter "Sophie" to keep us in the spotted ring.

In the quest to have all three setter breeds, the Irish finally arrived in 2000.  Barbara & Carmen Panza allowed us to obtain "Gable", Chiara's Frankly My Dear, from them while they wanted to add a Gordon to their clan.  Samantha went to live with the Panzas and Gable arrived here.   Gable has introduced us to the red ring and what a great time it has been.  He finished his championship with a Specialty  major win and 2 weeks later won our first ever Setter Specialty.  His enthusiasm and energy have made showing him a treat.  "Cecilia", Brynbar Good Day Sunshine, joined Windcrest Setters in the beginning of 2008 and we are looking forward to an exciting career with her.

We also currently have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that resides with us.  When Tori turned 10 and was eligible for Juniors we asked what breed she wanted.  Jim & Brenda Life sent "Lizzie", Hylife's Wish Upon A Star, to Tori as a Christmas Present.  We will never be without another Cav again.

Our dogs are always Owner/Handled to their Championships.  We enjoy being with our setters in the ring.  Tori, our third family generation, has been competing in Junior Showmanship and was the Gordon Setter Club of America's Top Junior in 2004 & 2007.  She also was Best Junior at the National Specialty in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008.  She is the first Junior to win four GSCA National Junior Handler titles.

We strive to breed healthy pets in temperament and sound conformation.  They are pets first and foremost!
